Private lessons are designed for you and are given with the guidance you need to get the most out of each workout. Each individual lesson builds upon the last to help you reach your unique goals on your health and wellness journey.
Each private lesson is designed as a workout for the whole body. While each exercise in the Gyrotonic Method works the body in an integrated way, families of exercises within the method focus on specific areas: the spine, the legs and hips, the abdominals and the upper body. I create a balanced lesson using each of these families and choose exercises with your body, ability and goals in mind.
You have an experienced teacher to guide you throughout your lesson. I have a keen eye for seeking out nuanced imbalances in the body and in a private lesson, my eyes are on just you. We can address your individual imbalances and movement patterns, taking the time to understand the root of the problem and figuring out how to solve it.
Much of my teaching is done through words and images, but in one-on-one lessons, I am able to use my hands as guidance as well. Cleary intentioned hands-on guidance can be invaluable in shifting movement patterns.
With guidance, you will get the most out of each of your lessons. You will see and feel the difference sooner and move more quickly towards your goals.

Griffin Movement Studio is located in my home in the historic Eastmoreland neighborhood of Portland. The studio is a cozy, calm space filled with light. Equipped with a Gyrotonic Pulley Tower as well as stools, mats and props for Gyrokinesis exercises, it is an ideal space for private lessons.
Working with Katie is a pure pleasure. Katie can explain how to move with such clear guidance that it is impossible not to make progress. She can see just how my body is moving, and then she can explain step by step what I need to do. Katie has guided me in both Gyrotonic and Pilates. I now stand taller; my shoulders are opening; my balance is improving and my core is definitely engaged. Perhaps just as important, Katie is a joy to work with. She is gentle and encouraging. I always leave my sessions looking forward to coming back for more.

Lessons are a full 60 minutes.
You will see and feel the quickest change in your body if you practice daily. That does not mean you need to take a lesson everyday however. Taking a lesson once or twice a week is ideal. I am always happy to design a short workout that you can do on your own at home in between lessons. Even 10 minutes of mindful movement a day can make a big difference.
You should feel a difference even after your first lesson. Maybe that twinge in your back will be gone. Maybe you will feel a little more energized. Everyone’s experience is different. When you will notice and see more tangible results will largely depend on how often you are practicing the Gyrotonic exercises and if you are consciously carrying that work over to your daily life.
You can book a lesson online here on my website. If you do not find a time that works for you, please reach out to me by email or phone.
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothes that allow you to move freely. Leggings, joggers or sweatpants work well. Please bring a pair of socks and consider wearing layers. It’s nice to be able to shed a layer as you start moving and building some heat in your body.
There is ample, free, on-street parking right by the studio.
You can Venmo @griffinmovement, PayPal katie@griffinmovement.studio or pay by check.
I ask that people cancel at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the lesson and to give me the opportunity to fill the slot.
You have six months from the date of purchase to use the package.
The name Griffin Movement Studio is inspired by the mythological creature. The Griffin is part lion and part eagle, the most powerful animals of land and air. Both have such a beautiful combination of strength and grace. After a Gyrotonic workout, I feel strong and at ease in my body, grounded but free. My hope is to bring that same feeling to you.
